Based in Palmerston North, New Zealand, photography is one of my recreational hobbies that I enjoy pursuing away from my normal full time employment. Landscape photography is without doubt my favourite subject but I've also been out and about photographing classic cars, steam trains, architecture and even 'shooting' big cats and animals! I've had some limited experience with people photography but this is an area I'm not yet well practised in - however, practise makes perfect!
Whilst an enticing hobby, with a full time job, my photography is all too often confined to holidays and working around weather and weekend commitments. Hopefully as I increase my experience, vision and style, I can give more time to pursuing a wonderful interest that I'm very passionate about. I've been taking photos for several years and it is only in relatively recent time that I have had the opportunity to take this further with better equipment, study and learning and involvement with the Manawatu Camera Club (MCC) and the Photographic Society of New Zealand (PSNZ). Having used Minolta equipment in earlier years, I now shoot exclusively with Sony mirrorless camera's and lenses.
Why do I enjoy photography? Having a photographic vision is quite different to merely looking at something - it provides an artistic platform and trains you to 'see' things that many might not and from a different perspective. Waiting within a beautiful landscape scene for the light and conditions to be just right is both very relaxing and rewarding. With photography no two moments in time are ever exactly the same - it's the photographers job to capture that one, unrepeatable moment.
Besides the personal satisfaction my photos provide, I've been proud to have won awards and honours achievements through the MCC, had images published for a commercial website, a UK printed touring map, various magazines and selected for publishing in New Zealand Camera 2013 and 2017, an annual book showcasing some of NZ's best photographic works and produced by the PSNZ.
Without doubt, my favourite photographic quote has to be:
"Which of my photographs is my favourite? The one I'm going to take tomorrow" - Imogen Cunningham
Thank you for taking the time to visit - the site has been designed to showcase just a few of my recent images and I hope you find something of interest and enjoyment!
